Big Ideas

Math is seen as a struggle to most students. There is fear, anxiety, and resentment towards a subject that seems "useless in the real world." Next year, I would like to have a central theme throughout the year that focuses on the question, "How can I use math in real life?"

Critical Thinking

Is everything we see the truth? Can we assume information not given to us? How can we prove this?

Budgeting

How much money can I allot for spending each month? How do interest rates work? How much should I tip my waitress?

Problem Solving

How can we tackle something we aren't sure of? What approaches can we take to get started?

Sports

What are the odds of my team winning? What is my batting average?

Spatial Awareness

Moving furniture? Building a pool? Putting a shelf up? Where can things fit in a given space?

Sustainability

What is the environmental impact of certain activities? What do trends say about how much electricity we use every year?
